Dreaming about food much? Many Whole 30ers report vibrant dreams about eating non-compliant foods around this time. There’s no concrete science behind it but some believe it’s due to your body’s last ditch effort to get you to go back to eating those quick energy sugary food of days past.
If these dreams carryover into real life say, during the diet coke sitting on your office-mate’s desk is calling your name, there are a few tricks to keep in your arsenal. According to Melissa Hartwig, Co-Author of the Whole 30 Program, studies have shown that cravings last about three minutes, and the most effective way to get through them is to distract yourself:
- Go for a walk
- Drink some water or herbal tea
- Do some busy work, or clean up
- Text a friend
- Take a sniff of some essential oils, peppermint and lavender are great
Tiger Blood as Melissa calls it, is just around the corner. Hee! 🙂
Today I was super busy in the morning getting my exercise on. I attended a Power Vinyasa Yoga class from one of my favorite instructors and then met a good friend for a walk around Greenlake. It was such a beautiful day here in Seattle. Chilly but sunny and perfect for a morning walk.
I was a bit skeptical if I could make it all the way around the lake, it’s about 3 miles because of my hip (long story and I’ll go into detail on another post but I was born with hip displaysia, wasn’t discovered until I was in my late 20s. Had reconstructive surgery on both hips. It’s been 14 years and the right hip is failing and in need of replacement, so I’m in severe arthritic pain on most days in that hip.) It was a bit creaky toward the end but I pushed through. I paid the price later but did a lot of stretching and I think have turned a corner. It really felt good to get out there and walk.
Because of my busy morning, my breakfast consisted of a banana until I got home around 11, which then I made round two of breakfast, see below.
Breakfast/Lunch: Banana and Fried Egg over Roasted Winter Vegetables.
Dinner: A version of Kalua Pig from NomNom Paleo. Pulled Pork with Roasted Potatoes, Peppers and Onions with fresh Thyme and Rosemary. I changed it up a bit because I didn’t have bacon or cabbage.
